Carbon offsets are designed to neutralise a tonne of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emitted in one place by avoiding the release of a tonne of CO2e elsewhere or absorbing (sequestering) a tonne of CO2e that would otherwise remain in the atmosphere. This is achieved by investing in projects that deliver energy efficiency, sustainable forestry and land use and renewable energy.GCX has selected a diverse range of offset projects to suit all requirements. All projects that feature in the GCX portfolio have been verified and comply with the criteria laid out in the Gold Standard that governs the Clean Development Mechanism created by the Kyoto Protocol.
