What is a Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is the impact of an individual, a group or an organisation in terms of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are trapping heat in the atmosphaer and damaging our climate. The UN recognises CO2, Methan and 4 other gases to be harmful under the Kyoto protocol. Our lifestyles have ensured that each and every one of us has a carbon footprint. We all lead lives where pollution is a by-product of nearly all our actions. Whether travelling, shopping or even through our food, we are producing amounts of emissions which go beyond the natural level and are having a damaging effect on the climate and our environment.

GCX is on hand to counteract this negative impact on the environment by providing tailored made and reliable carbon offset packages. These are not just licences to pollute but rather carefully structured credits directly linked to projects which have been verified to be reducing CO2 emissions. As an individual, you have the option to take direct action by offsetting you and your family's greenhouse gas emissions.

How do I offset my Carbon Footprint?

Each time you heat/air-condition your homes, take a flight or drive a vehicle, CO2 is added into the atmosphere. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that is released when fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are burnt.

Offsetting means transfering money to "carbon offset projects" to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere by the same amount that your activities add. In this way you can 'neutralise' or compensate the CO2 added by your activities.

You are financially supporting projects that reduce emissions

  • renewable and clean energy
  • energy efficiency
  • destruction of harmfull greenhouse gases

or that capture greenhouse gases in plants (growing trees).

It is up to you to do more then just to compensate. You should do more then just buying offsets, but continue an emissions-intensive lifestyle. We encourage you to become a true climate leader by reducing your carbon footprint as much as you can, and to offset the rest.
